The Novus Policy for Responsible Care Management
The guiding vision at Novus is to help feed the world affordable, wholesome food. To work toward this vision, we leverage our global network of employees, clients, and partners to positively influence the complete food chain from farm to table.
We believe that the primary way to implement our vision is to develop solutions which transition our industry toward the responsible production of food. This transition will require a holistic shift toward sustainable practices, benefiting both today's participants and those of subsequent generations. Through our business we strive to provide commercial solutions that promote reduced waste and the reuse and/or recycle of our natural resources.
We are committed as an organization to offer sustainable programs to our industry and to achieve success through integrity. This commitment extends beyond social obligations or the imposed regulations of any one government or governing body, which may not yet reflect the higher standards to which we are driven. Novus subscribes to the Responsible Care Guiding Principles. The Novus policy for Responsible Care Management is an expression of our commitment to:
- Empower our employees with Responsible Care Management System training so we all have a shared sense of commitment to responsible behavior and business practices.
- Communicate in a manner that is fair, honest, and open, providing information that is practical and applicable to each stakeholder's function.
- Support and promote the development of responsible laws, regulations and voluntary standards that protect our community, workplace and environment. To provide solutions that enable customers to meet regulatory challenges in their operations, and achieve profitable and responsible business solutions.
- Set objectives and targets for the continuous improvement of our organization.
- Conduct ongoing reviews to measure and report on performance.

OSHA Recordable Injuries

Reportable Environmental Releases
Our manufacturing and research and development facilities have had no reportable environmental releases since the inception of Novus in 1991.
DOT Reportable Transportation Incidents
There have been no reportable transportation incidents in the history of the company.
Product Stewardship
Novus has a product stewardship risk evaluation and management system in place. Our practice is to evaluate products through all stages of their life cycle to be sure that they:
- Deliver benefits to the end user
- Are safe and environmentally sound
- Meet all product regulatory requirements of the countries in which we do business
Novus conducts a formal Product Safety Assessment on each new or modified product. These assessments address matters such as determining a clear understanding of the product characteristics and its expected uses, and conducting a review of all available health, safety, environmental, exposure and regulatory information. The nature of Novus's business is such that all feed ingredient and vaccine products have been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) or other appropriate agencies in the U.S. and other countries in which we manufacture or market products. Regulations on the use of such products have been established based on thorough evaluations of health, safety, security, and environmental data.
Potential risks are characterized, regulatory compliance is assured, and risk management practices are established where necessary and appropriate as an integral part of the decision on whether and how a product is commercialized. The results of the Product Safety Assessment are communicated through Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), labels, and supplemental product stewardship information as applicable.
Novus continues to monitor products even after they are commercialized. As new health and safety data or new product use and exposure information become available, this new information is analyzed and adjustments are made to the Product Safety Assessment if needed.

OSHA Star Award
The dedication of Novus to protecting employees and maintaining the highest safety standards were recognized in 1996 when the United States Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) awarded the ALIMET® manufacturing facility with the OSHA Star Award. This award, OSHA's highest honor, recognizes outstanding safety and health standards.
The ALIMET® plant received the Star Award through OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), which is designed to recognize and promote effective safety and health management. The plant earned the award after a comprehensive five-day inspection and as a result of consistently exceeding OSHA standards. Novus has retained OSHA Star status every year since 1996.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification
In March 1998, the ALIMET® plant became the first methionine plant in the world to earn the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification. The internationally recognized ISO 14001 Standard focuses on continuous improvement in environmental performance through a rigorous program of established procedures.
A voluntary program, ISO 14001 requires participants to set environmental targets and objectives, communicate those objectives throughout the organization and demonstrate results toward continuous improvement. This endorsement of quality environmental standards by an independent, highly regarded agency illustrates the sincere dedication to environmental care by Novus.
