Mold Inhibition

Weather and environmental conditions can affect the quality of grain during the growing, harvest, storage and processing stages. Mold thrive in warm moist conditions and can reduce or destroy feed quality.

Many different molds (fungi) exist in nature and are usually present in spore form at all times. When conditions provide the mold an opportunity to grow, the response is usually rapid, producing several undesirable outcomes.

Mold growth uses ingredient substrates for a nutrient source thus reducing nutrient concentration available for animal feed. Moldy feeds are known to depress feed intake, reduce performance from compromised digestion and reduced grain quality. Molds also secrete compounds which are potentially toxic to animals and humans.

Novus feed quality products are designed to stop mold growth and preserve the grain quality for extended storage periods prior to processing and following manufacturing of finished feed, insuring optimum animal performance.
