ST. LOUIS BUSINESSES LAUNCH CHALLENGE TO AID HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
Meds & Food for Kids, Novus International and World Trade Center Saint Louis Launch New Campaign to Raise $100,000 to Provide Life-Saving Peanut-Based Food to Victims
St. Louis, Mo., February 3, 2010 – “Medika Mamba,” a fortified, peanut-butter-based, ready-to-use-therapeutic food (RUTF) endorsed by the World Health Organization and UNICEF could well be one of the most effective life-savers among victims of the disastrous earthquakes in Haiti. Three St. Louis-area organizations are working hard to ensure that this lifeline continues to be available during the disaster relief period and beyond.
Meds & Food for Kids (MFK), a St. Louis based non-profit with operations in Haiti since 2003, is the focus of a $100,000 Challenge Campaign launched today by Novus International in partnership with the World Trade Center Saint Louis. The goal of the challenge campaign is to raise $100,000 by Friday, February 12, to fund the production of as much Medika Mamba as possible to help the injured and malnourished Haitian children and their families.
The latest death toll in Haiti is estimated at 150,000, with thousands more buried in mass graves. An estimated 2 million Haitians are homeless or living in make-shift shelters, and 250,000 are in dire need of urgent care, according to government reports.
In support of this initiative, Novus International President and Chief Executive Officer Thad Simons issued communication to all worldwide Novus employees urging them to make earthquake relief donations to MFK or similar organizations committed to assisting Haiti from disaster through to rebuilding. Novus International, a St. Charles-based company and a leading developer of animal health and nutrition programs for the poultry, pork, beef, dairy, aquaculture, and companion animal industries worldwide, made the first corporate donation of $10,000 to the Challenge Campaign. Additionally, Novus will match employee donations, dollar-for-dollar.
St. Louis area residents, businesses and corporations are urged to donate to MFK by clicking on Medika Mamba Challenge or by visiting the following bit URL: http://bit.ly/a3CVCE.

Novus Builds on Environmental Efforts with Renovation of Home on Company Farm
|
Click here to download the PDF
St. Louis, Missouri, December 11, 2009 — Novus International Inc., a St. Louis, Missouri based animal health and nutritional company, embraces a variety of environmentally-friendly practices in its production and operating processes around the world. Seeing an opportunity to build on a long line of environmental initiatives, Novus recently completed a major renovation on a newly-acquired home that qualifies the home for consideration of one of the most well-known certifications given to sustainability projects.
Novus recently purchased a small farm in MontgomeryCity outside St. Louis for use as a research facility. One of the properties on the farm was a caretaker's home that dates back to approximately 1920 and is currently used by the farm's manager. As is the case with most homes of the period, the construction process and materials used didn't result in an energy-efficient structure. Seeking to remedy that, the company embarked on a major renovation that now qualifies the home for the internationally-recognized Leadership in Energy and Efficient Design (LEED) for Homes certification. .
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) created the LEED platform for the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of green projects undertaken in both the commercial and residential sectors. Over the years, a number of standards were created that culminated in the development of a framework governing environmental and energy-efficient practices in both interior and exterior construction and rehabilitation. The voluntary ratings framework was developed beginning in 1998 and has grown to include a variety of certifications for commercial and residential projects.
The LEED for Homes designation is the newest of the USGBC’s certifications. Like the other LEED ratings programs, the homes designation uses a point system based on sustainable site practices, water efficiencies, responsible natural resource management, improved indoor environmental quality, and energy-efficiencies.
Once Novus decided to embark on an environmentally-friendly rehabilitation of the property, which is located at 1337 Highway 161 in Montgomery City, the company hired a highly-integrated team of green design and construction specialists, including architectural designer Ben Fehrmann, landscape architect Hunter Beckham, Brooks Critchfield, a LEED-accredited professional, and Matt Ford, an engineer specializing in designing sustainable heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
The team then began an ambitious project that included a gut renovation, although much of the material removed was salvaged for reuse, including some of the wood used in cabinet construction. Local materials, materials with a high-recycled content and materials with low VOCs were used in the construction. The renovation also included the use of aggressive moisture control measures to prevent mold and other water-related damage and increase overall durability. The home was sealed using a castor-based foam sealant and treated with a non-toxic termite barrier. Also, a variety of high-efficiency plumbing fixtures were installed in place of standard fixtures to minimize water demands. Energy consumption is also minimized through the use of state-of-the-art insulation, high-efficiency windows, Energy Star-rated household appliances, a highly-efficiency heating, air conditioning and ventilation system, as well as a hot-water-on-demand system which heats water only when needed.
A variety of other measures were also taken outside the home, including the preservation of all existing trees and the use of drought resistant, indigenous grass and plants to minimize the need for irrigation and synthetic chemical use. The site design includes no hardscape so that all rain water can be retained on site and returned to water cycle naturally. Also, all roof runoff following storms is captured in “rain barrels” and used for such needs as plant establishment.
The project includes some simple measures as well. No shoes are allowed in the house to control pollutants from being spread throughout, and the house will be maintained with non-toxic environmentally-preferred cleaners and equipment. The home's caretaker also received extensive training to help extend the life of the home and its various components.
Finally, the home and portions of the farm will be served with an on-site renewable energy system that may include solar and wind power. Several other energy-related plans are also being considered for the farm, including the establishment of a wind farm.
Mr. Tom Hampton, Manager, Product Research, Novus International said the home renovation is just th latest in a long line of examples where Novus has embraced sustainability.
Novus’ commitment to bettering its environment was evident when the company built its new global headquarters in the MissouriResearchPark in metro St. Louis. The innovative $20 million, 90,000-square-foot facility earned LEED Platinum certification earlier this year, the highest energy and environmental designation available in the United States. As only the fourth building in Missouri to achieve the distinction, the Novus headquarters is one of fewer than 100 buildings in the nation so recognized.
“Sustainability has been one of our top initiatives since our founding in 1991. All of our animal feed products are designed from inception to ensure our feed delivers the maximum amount of nutrients possible, which in turn reduces the contamination of ground water,” said Hampton. “In addition to our global headquarters, our blending plant in Indaiatuba, Brazil was sustainably designed. The facility collects, cleans and/or separates water, waste and recyclables and minimizes energy use through smart control systems.. We're proud of the commitments we've made to the environment and the impact they will have for a long time to come.”

St. Louis, MO, Oct 06, 2009 — Novus International Inc., a global leader in animal health and nutrition held a seminar during World Dairy Expo for dairy nutritionists, "Understanding CNCPS and CPM: Biology, Modeling and "Best Cost" Applications for Balancing the Nutrient Requirements in Dairy Diets". The event was held in Madison, Wisconsin, September 30, 2009 and consisted of two speakers, Dr. Tom Overton, Associate Professor, Department of Animal Science, Cornell University and Ed Galo, Ruminant Technical Manager, Novus International.
Dr. Tom Overton discussed the biology behind CNCPS (Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System) and CPM (Cornell Penn Miner) and how they can work together in understanding carbohydrate, protein and amino acid dynamics of the programs, insight on how to navigate CNCPS and CPM and optimize nutrients using these models and application this information to pre-fresh lactation diets. "Dairy producers and their nutritionists always need to be looking for innovative ways to increase the value of their feeding programs," stated Dr. Overton. "The recent combination of low milk prices and variable to high purchased feed costs make finding these opportunities even more imperative."
Ed Galo discussed methionine for milk and component yield. "Methionine, is a limiting essential amino acid that plays multiple roles in dairy cattle nutrition," Galo stated. "Methionine is required for the synthesis of milk protein, and as a limiting amino acid, it needs to be supplemented in the diet. Also, methionine plays a key role as a methyl donor in the animal, positively affecting fat metabolism, promoting milk fat synthesis, and helping alleviate metabolic issues associated with excessive fat mobilization. It is also a precursor of cysteine which plays a critical role in the ability of a cow to fight oxidative stress as a component of glutathione."
Gary Winter, National Sales Manager, Ruminants, Novus International expressed, "The attendance and participation in the meeting was excellent. Novus is proud to sponsor speakers such as Dr. Overton to help train dairy nutritionists in the use of CNCPS and CPM models. By using tools of this nature we can help the dairy producer make the most of his feedstuffs and improve productivity. Thanks again to Dr. Overton for leading this training session."

Novus to Upgrade Automated Supply Chain Management System
|
Click here to download the PDF
St. Louis, MO, Oct 01, 2009 — In order to better serve customers, Novus International, Inc. is upgrading the infrastructure of its patented AIMS automated supply chain management system.
Novus pioneered vendor managed inventory for feed industry bulk liquids in 1993. Since then, the AIMS® automated supply chain management system has improved supply chain efficiency, reduced environmental impact (by reducing IBC and drum usage) and supported the growth of Novus's liquid feed ingredients.
The new system will improve reliability and upgrade the telemetry system to a sustainable technology platform. It uses satellite communication with a submersible differential pressure sensor for level measurement. Novus Launches Website for Dairy Industry
|
Click here to download the PDF
St. Louis, MO, Sep 29, 2009 — Oxidative Stress is a condition where an imbalance occurs between the production of free radicals and the body's antioxidant mechanisms. Just like humans, high-producing dairy cows are prone to oxidative stress
Clinical signs of oxidative stress in cows may include: retained placenta, udder edema and mastitis, as well as delayed first estrus, delayed first breeding and repeat breeding resulting from failure to conceive or from early embryonic death.
To help producers, nutritionists and veterinarians identify and address the concerns of oxidative stress, Novus International has launched http://www.dairybalance.com/. The site includes signs, proof, solutions and expert opinion pertinent to balancing oxidative stress in dairy cows.
A dairy cow's oxidative balance is one of the many factors that can limit milk production and a producer's bottom line. A dairy cow's nutrition program can help maintain oxidative balance through the proper inclusion of antioxidants, minerals and amino acids.
"Dealing with oxidative stress requires more energy from the animals that could be used for milk production, growth, longevity and overall animal productivity," stated Stephanie Gable, Ruminant Marketing Manager, Novus International. "A producer's ability to address and balance this reaction should result in more efficient and profitable production."
To learn more about the Oxidative Stress or the Novus Oxidative Balance program, please visit http://www.dairybalance.com/.

5th Annual Injured Marine Semper Fi Golf Tournament, August 30th
|
Click here to download the PDF
St. Charles, MO, Aug 27, 2009 — The Marine Corps motto, Semper Fi, reminds Marines to be "always faithful" to their country, the Corps, the mission at hand and each other, no matter what. The 5th annual Missouri Friends of Injured Marines Golf Outing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 30, 2009, at the Country Club at the Legends in Eureka, Mo.
The event includes a four-person golf scramble followed by a banquet, as well as silent and live auctions, from which all net proceeds will be donated to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund (IMSFF).
This is the first year Novus International Inc. has participated in the event and is a Bronze Star Sponsor donating $5,000.
IMSFF started in 2004, works with injured Marines and sailors and their families. They assist with travel, food and lodging expenses, as well as unpaid work leave. The IMSFF has raised more than $29 million to assist more than 3,000 service members.
"The Fund helps cover some of the extra expenses that the injured Marines and their families inevitably incur," said George Halenkamp, Missouri Friends of Injured Marines Board of Directors member and Novus International employee. "While Novus is primarily an animal health and nutrition company, our corporate mission of sustainability includes helping others."
Howard Short, M.D., started the Missouri Friends of Injured Marines (MFIM) when a friend told him about the formation of an organization (IMSFF) that would help pay for various expenses the families of injured Marines incur. Dr. Short started spreading the world and a group was formed to help make a major contribution.
"As of 2007, this golf event in Missouri was the largest single contributor to [IMSFF]," said Short. MFIM has contributed $93,000, $145,000, $193,000 and $154,000 in its first four years respectively.
This year, MFIM hopes to raise $150,000, which will be a challenge, due to the economic recession. Many corporate sponsors have already had to cut back on the amount of money they donate, which generally accounts for 60-80% of the money raised.
"We hope to make up for [the loss of corporate sponsorships] by having a large number of smaller contributions," said Short. "We appreciate Novus's participation this year very much."
One way MFIM hopes to accomplish this is enabling their website, http://www.semperfigolf.com/, to accept on-line donations. Also available on their website are forms for donating items to be auctioned off at the banquet following the golf tournament and golf team sign up forms.
This year's highlighted auction gift is a package of four airline tickets for a weekend getaway at a private vacation home in Bear Creek, Colo.
"Just about everybody that goes to the banquet one year comes back the next year," said Halenkamp. Guest speakers at the evening banquet, starting at 5:30 p.m., help to create an emotional and memorable experience for all those in attendance.
Speakers this year include Lt. Gen. Dennis Hejlek and Lance Corporal Brandon Pelletier. Lt. Gen. Hejlek is the Commander of the 1st Marines Expeditionary Force, one of the largest fighting Marine units it the world.
Lance Corporal Pelletier's right elbow and main nerves were crushed while in Iraq and he has been at Barnes Jewish Hospital since April 2009. Through medical treatment, Pelletier hopes to regain feeling and movement in his arm to avoid needing a transplant or prosthetic.
Also in attendance will be Karen Guenther and Wendy Lethin, co-founders of IMSFF.

Novus Offers PSA Foundation Challenge Grant
|
Click here to download the PDF
St. Charles, MO, Aug 19, 2009 — While technology has the ability to make information easily accessible, if that information is not available in a convenient way, then it could easily be forgotten. The Poultry Science Association, established in 1908, first started making articles in the journal "Poultry Science" electronically accessible in 1996.
"That leaves out nine decades of data and classic papers that are the foundation of poultry science," said Dr. Scott Carter, Poultry Marketing Manager, Novus International Inc. "We are trying to bring these fundamental articles to the advancement of technology online for easy access to all."
In order to fund the year long project of digitizing, indexing and placing 88 years of journals on the internet, the Poultry Science Association Foundation has created The Legacy Project. Novus International helped launch PSA Foundation's Legacy Project capital campaign with a challenge grant at the 98th annual PSA meeting in Raleigh, N.C. earlier this year. .
Novus International Inc., an animal health and nutrition company in St. Louis, chose to take an active role in the project after experiencing a need for digitized journals. This need has developed because there are fewer repositories of information than in years past due the dearth of academic institutions offering curricula in poultry science.
"Through our extensive network in the poultry industry and ongoing involvement in activities of the Poultry Science Association, we recognized the need and chose to support education in this industry that's vital for our success and feeding the world," said Carter.
"This support is more necessary than before as there are fewer poultry science departments today, which puts a stress on academia," said Dr. Drew Giesen, Marketing Technical Services, Novus International, Inc. "This really is an issue of sustainability, sustaining the many decades of science dedicated to poultry production," said Giesen. "Novus supports the education of individuals and people in our industry; we must take aggressive measures that will preserve the industry's scientific knowledge."
"When Novus came forward to provide this challenge grant, it really set the stage to get the membership involved," said Dr. Bill Saylor, PSA Foundation President. "I think presenting it as a challenge grant rather than just an outright gift really gives the membership something to work for."
"We've set up an interesting approach for the membership and others to participate," said Saylor. The PSA Foundation will be offering three levels of support: an issue can be sponsored for $100, a volume for $1,000 or an entire decade for $5,000.
For more information about the PSA Legacy Project, please visit http://www.poultryscience.org/ or you may contact PSA Assistant Executive Director Jon Cole at 217-356-5285 or JonC@assochq.org.

St. Louis, MO, Aug 10, 2009 — Striving to be the premier provider of innovative health and nutrition products that holistically address specific issues in horses and pets while achieving optimal health, performance and longevity, Arenus recently acquired the intellectual property, technology and product lines of Equilite, Inc.
Equilite provides many all-natural herbal health products that are safe for horses, horse owners and the environment. Ingredients are human grade and made in the US without sugars, fillers or chemical additives.
Arenus acquired Equilite's three product lines: the Sore No-More® Liniment Product Line, Herbal Supplement line and Botanical Animal® Flower Essence line, totaling 39 individual products. Other Equilite products include bathing, fly control, general health, behavioral training, relaxation, liniment and legs, as well as natural pasture seed.
"Arenus's philosophy is to provide unique health products that holistically address specific issues and EquiliteTM products do just that," said Celeste Mohatt, Arenus Marketing Manager. "The market trend is toward a more holistic, natural approach to horse care and Equilite fulfills this need."
"Arenus brings to the table an unprecedented level of experience in animal health research and product development," said Stacey Palmer Small, Founder and President of EquiliteTM. "The Arenus team is committed more than ever in bringing to market products that will continue to improve the lives of the equine and companion animals we all love and care for."
The product Sore No-More® was originally designed to meet the needs of race horses that are faced with extremely stressful situations. Track veterinarians were looking for an alternative way to help support their traditional methods of treatment, so they asked Small to research herbs as a possible adjunctive route. She started with a two year course in Chinese Medicine and continued her studies which lead to the creation of the first two products, Sore No-More® and the
Garli+CTM Blend.
Sore No-More® was named Product of the Year by Horse Journal in 2000 and 2007.
"Our overall pick for safety in both acute and chronic conditions, versatility, pain relief, rapid inflammation control and low irritate potential is still the herbal-based Sore No-More® from Equilite," according to the January 2009 issue of Horse Journal.
Like Arenus, Equilite is a member of the National Animal Supplement Council, which enforces good animal health supplement manufacturing, labeling and marketing practice standards.
Other ARENUS® product lines include STEADFAST®, a joint health supplement and ASSURE®, a digestive aid family. For more information about Equilite products visit http://www.equilite.com/ or http://www.arenus.com/.

St. Louis, MO, Jul 30, 2009 — Amid more than 450 presentations, group discussion panels and posters presented by universities and private companies at the Poultry Science Associations (PSA) 98th annual meeting, time was taken to award two scientists for their outstanding work in the poultry science industry. PSA and Novus International recognized Dr. Adam Davis for his many contributions to the poultry industry. Novus also took time to celebrate the research and work of Dr. Park Waldroup.
Dr. Adam Davis, Professor and Researcher, University of Georgia, Athens, was presented with the prestigious Poultry Science Association Inc., Novus International Teaching Award.
Dr. Davis earned his Bachelor and Doctoral degrees from Cornell University and focuses his poultry nutrition research on: amino acid interactions, alternative grains, de novo fat synthesis and in reproductive physiology.
Since starting work at the University of Georgia, Dr. Davis has dramatically increased undergraduate enrollment in University's Poultry Science Department.
"The award is provided by Novus International in recognition of the fact that excellence in teaching is basic to the future welfare of the poultry industry," said Drew Giesen, Technical Services Manager, Novus International. "It is the desire of Novus that the award be considered not only as a recognition for past contributions, but also as an aid for continued professional improvement through travel, study and other means."
Novus also hosted a research collaborators dinner where Dr. Park Waldroup, Poultry Nutrition Professor, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and researcher at the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science, was recognized as Novus International's only distinguished professor.
Dr. Waldroup earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee and his Master's and Doctoral degrees from the University of Florida.
"Monsanto, the predecessor, provided a grant that paid for my assistantship [during graduate school] and we've done a number of studies since then," said Dr. Waldroup.
"The relationships that we start with graduate students early on in their career can really have an impact over the years," said Chris Knight, Vice President of Research and Development, Novus International.
Dr. Waldroup has contributed to the poultry science industry more than 400 research papers, 60 students and presentations in upward of 50 countries.
"[Dr. Waldroup] is back in our DNA, our history," said Knight. "He was the first graduate student in the Nutrition Chemicals Animal Sciences division in Monsanto that worked with providing the first peer-reviewed publication on SANTOQUIN® feed antioxidant 50 years ago- something we're also celebrating today."
Today, Dr. Waldroup's research focuses on nutrient requirements and interactions in broilers and turkey, emphasizing nutrition to carcass composition.
Even in his thank you speech, Dr. Waldroup gave advice to current poultry science students. "I want to encourage all of you to work hard on your career, work with the industry and work with each other," said Dr. Waldroup.
"PSA is a gathering place for science and scientists of the world to come in and present their scientific findings for the year, share those with their colleagues and actually generate some new ideas," said Jim Kessler, PSA Executive Director.
"This year Novus has continued our commitment as a top sponsor of this very valuable meeting for our industry as a whole," said Scott Carter, Poultry Marketing Manager, Novus International.
Novus was a gold level sponsor of the PSA 98th annual meeting, which included sponsorship of the poultry science meeting "Global Views of New Agriculture: Food, Energy and the Environment" and the poster viewing session.
As a participant, Novus displayed a scientific poster and delivered two oral presentations on research findings.

|
Click here to download the PDF
St. Louis, MO, Jun 17, 2009 — Three companies, who share our same view on sustainable agriculture, have applied to become members of the SAI Platform. Their application was accepted and we are pleased to announce three new members:
Cayuga Marketing LLC
General Mills
NOVUS International, Inc.
SAI Platform is an organization created by the food industry to communicate worldwide, and to actively support the development of, sustainable agriculture involving the different stakeholders of the food chain. We appreciate the interest these companies have in our Platform and welcome them to our organization. We are sure that each will mutually benefit from the other's experience and that their support and engagement will give a great contribution to sustainable agriculture.
Cayuga Marketing LLC
Cayuga Marketing LLC (CM) is comprised of 22 large farm business owners who own and manage assets in excess of $300 million USD, with 520 employees, who milk approximately 28,000 mature cows at 28 sites and marketed 675,000,000 lbs. (300,000,000 liters) of milk and had gross product sales over $130 million USD in 2008. Initially created to better market the milk, got soon engaged in all aspects of dairy production. A related company was formed in 1997 with a project with Cornell University, looking into a solution for minimizing the loss of nutrients from dairy farms. In 2002 a national organic residual management company was hired to do a worldwide research for proven technologies that would reduce any nutrient losses, odours, and other negative effects. Current efforts are to secure a long term energy sale agreement with a utility specialised in renewable energy to collect the biogas and produce electricity with it. A dairy nutritionist is employed to improve coordination of diets and milk attributes, so CM farms have higher levels of milk production per cow and higher quality. A value-added milk processing plant is planned for construction, which will allow short hauls of the raw milk, use of renewable energy, and an efficient warehouse and distribution system. Cayuga Marketing members participated in a successful project to provide funds for cows to villages in Mozambique. The next project under consideration is to develop businesses to provide better job opportunities in Guatemala for skilled employees who return to their motherland.
General Mills
Starting with two flour mills in the 1860s, General Mills revolutionized the milling industry by producing flour with superior baking properties. Today, General Mills is the world's 6th largest food company and employs more than 29,000 people around the world. Its global brands include Betty Crocker, Häagen-Dazs, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Old El Paso and Cheerios.
General Mills formalized its sustainability program in 2003. Headed by a chief sustainability officer, sustainability team provided one of the first pictures of the total U.S. food industry's environmental impact, including greenhouse gas emissions, water use, energy consumption and solid waste generation. The analysis and framework for measuring a company's environmental impact is being rolled out throughout the company so systematic improvements can be made. For decades, General Mills has worked to improve sustainable agricultural practices with its Green Giant brand of vegetables, including water conservation, and working with contract growers around the world to apply these best practices. The company's Agriculture Research department sets ambitious goals to further reduce environmental impact: reduce insecticide applications, reduce herbicide use, reduce water use by using more efficient drip irrigation technology and by planting non-economic cover crops to hold the soil and nutrients in place, to reduce soil erosion and to create wildlife habitat around agriculture areas.
NOVUS International, Inc.
NOVUS International, Inc. creates animal health and nutrition solutions based on science. The NOVUS International team is comprised of more than 600 people which includes doctors of Veterinary Medicine and Nutritionists. "Our business is the creation of sustainable programs which enable health through nutrition for people and animals," explained Thad Simons, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novus International, Inc. "Through the construction of this facility and now earning our LEED Platinum certification, we are sending a message to the world regarding our sustainable efforts, while achieving a superior work environment and reducing our operating costs."
The 90,000 square foot facility consolidates the Global Headquarters and International Research Center into a single facility. In addition to office space, the building includes 10 research laboratories, state-of-the-art employee and customer training center, a fitness center and cafeteria.

- The largest array of solar panels in Missouri (5,000 square feet).
- 10% of the total materials cost came from salvaged materials.
- 30% of the total materials cost came from recycled content. Examples include countertops made from recycled milk jugs and scrap aluminum, fitness room floor made from recycled tires, and carpet containing recycled yarn.
- Under-floor air distribution system; this state-of-the-art system is extremely energy efficient.
- Landscape using Missouri native grasses and plants designed to require no irrigation, equating to thousands of gallons of water saved each year.
- A storm water system that will greatly reduce the environmental impact of runoff and improve water quality to receiving streams and eventually the Missouri River.
- Skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the use of natural light.
- Preferred parking for low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles.
Built at a competitive cost to commercial leased space, the new facility is healthy for the Novus staff and the environment. "The whole design and construction team from Clayco, Forum Studio, Open Fields Designs and many subcontractors are proud of this accomplishment." explained Don Vondriska, Director, Business Development, Novus International, Inc. Novus launches Feed Quality Division in Asia-Pacific

St. Louis, MO, Jan 08, 2008 — Novus International Inc., a global leader in animal health and nutrition, has launched a Feed Quality Division in the Asia-Pacific region. The division will assist producers who are under constant financial pressure in sustaining their operations. "Animal feed is the single largest cost in agriculture, constituting about 60-70% of production costs. The Feed Quality Division will benefit producers by helping them reduce these expenses," said Dr Nagpal Vaighbav, Regional Feed Quality Manager.
With over 10 years of industry experience (focused on feed quality), Dr Nagpal Vaighbav was appointed to launch the Asia-Pacific Feed Quality Division for Novus International in 2007. This newly created division will concentrate on raw material preservation, manufacturing quality feed under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards, maintaining shelf life, lowering carcass contamination and better nutrient conversation rates.
Raw Material preservation is important from two perspectives. Raw materials continually lose amino acid percentages and nutritive value while in being stored. First, the quality of this raw material is best at the time of harvesting and deteriorates with time. Chemical and microbial degradation mechanisms work in synergy like molds, bacteria, oxidation and toxic principles which attack and weaken the feed value. It is important to preserve these materials to in an effort to improve the cost of production. Second, from a purely economic point of view, producers can purchase the raw material in bulk when prices are cheap, preserve it and use it when prices are higher.
