Feed & Water Hygiene

The ability to protect raw materials and finished feeds from harmful contaminants is crucial to ensure animal performance. Bacteria, mold, mycotoxins and aflatoxins rob ingredients of their value to the animal. By improving the microbiological quality of the feed and water, animals can utilize the full nutritional benefit of each ingredient with lowered risk for sickness. In addition to the benefits of strong animal performance, controlling pathogenic presence in feed can reduce the risk of farm-born diseases to public health.

Today’s production processes present several challenges to gut health. Animals are exposed to pathogenic bacteria at multiple points throughout the production process. They also experience stress from changes in feed and environment. That often contributes to reduced feed intake, which increases the potential of disease taking hold.

FORMYCINE Gold Px preservative pre-mix is used to control and kill harmful contaminants in raw materials and finished feed. This helps to prevent the harmful effects of animal disease, and can lead to a faster recovery from outbreaks.

FORMYCINE Gold PX is a combination of formaldehyde and propionic acid and is embedded in a micronized dry carrier, thus reducing volatilization and improving product stability. This results in a potent antimicrobial activity even at low inclusion rates. FORMYCINEGold PX helps to control the risk of pathogen contamination all along the food chain, starting with rendering/ingredient manufacture, feed mills and poultry houses. Its unique formulation makes it easy to handle, as well as safe for the operators and the livestock when following the instructions described in the safety data sheet. Moreover, it is not susceptible to bacterial resistance and does not generate residues in tissues. Its wide-spectrum of effectiveness helps to control harmful contaminants that may otherwise reduce animal performance.

Bentonite is used as carrier of Formaldehyde in FORMYCINE Gold Px. Due to its small particle size, it allows for high dispersion of formaldehyde. Addtionally, it has high capacity of retaining molecules: allowing lower amount of formaldehyde in the product and high anti bacterial effectiveness.

The ACTIVATE® nutritional feed acid family of products contains a blend of organic acids and methionine hydroxy analogue (HMTBa), a highly bioavailable source of methionine. The combination of organic acids in ACTIVATE effectively reduces the pH of the gastrointestinal tract, promotes the establishment of a desirable and more balanced intestinal flora and aids in digestion, providing more nutrients from feed and improving performance.

ACTIVATE® WD MAX is for use in drinking water, providing nutritional benefits (methionine activity) and drinking water acidification, making the drinking water a less favorable environment for pathogen growth (e.g., Salmonella, E. coli, Campylobacter, etc.).

Advanced Feed Milling Technology Forum

Novus Adanced Feed Milling Technology Forum in Pune, India and Putrajaya, Malaysia during July 2018 was both well attended by over 60 delegates. The keynote speaker, Dr. Charles Stark, Associate Professor of Feed Technology from Kansas State University, shared ways to optimize production process and save cost through key feed milling topics including energy management, preventive maintenance, and pelleting. Novus technical experts concluded the forum with feed hygiene discussions illustrating the importance, challenges, and solutions for feed hygiene.
