SAINT CHARLES, MO (July 25, 2019) – This month Novus International, Inc. brought its corporate vision to help feed the world a little closer to home.
Employees at the Missouri-based leader in health and nutrition solutions for the animal agriculture industry participated in the company’s annual food drive from July 15-19 at headquarters in Saint Charles. Through daily activities employees donated over $8,400 for the St. Louis Area Foodbank, the region’s largest nonprofit food distribution center. With a corporate match from the Novus Fund, the total donation is over $16,850. This monetary donation represents 67,429 pounds of food and 48,164 meals.
The week-long initiative included many opportunities for employees to contribute, like donating for a chance to win raffle prizes such as St. Louis Cardinals tickets, gift baskets or additional paid time off. Employees could also donate for the privilege to wear jeans at the office during the workweek, to purchase homemade cinnamon rolls baked by local non-profit Bridge Bread food truck or participate in a pizza lunch party with all proceeds benefiting the Foodbank. The program concluded on Friday with Family Day where employees and their guests donated to participate in a variety of games and entertainment at Novus HQ that included a barbecue lunch, video game bus, dunk tank, a 22-foot-tall water slide, carnival games, photo booth, face painting, balloon artist, bubble station, and other family-friendly fun.
Lisa Ervin, Novus global benefits manager who leads the fundraising efforts, said her team of volunteers from departments throughout the company worked to create a truly special week for employees.
“The team spent countless hours working to make the week special, serve others, and support a great cause that is closely connected with the Novus vision,” she said. “We had great participation from employees this year and, in spite of a 107-degree heat index, the feedback and money raised as a part of Family Day were overwhelmingly positive. That, combined with seeing our vision come to life, makes all of the time and effort worth it.”
Novus’s Foodbank fundraising efforts began in 2011 when David Friedman, the company’s controller at the time, saw that the St. Louis Area Foodbank’s mission fit well with Novus’s vision: “To help feed the world affordable, wholesome food and achieve a higher quality of life” and started encouraging employees to participate in fundraising activities at HQ. From 2011 to 2018, the company raised over $138,000 USD in employee contributions and company matched funds.
Ervin said her group is currently planning for the annual Novus volunteer day at the St. Louis Area Foodbank in December.
Novus supports other local nonprofit organizations throughout the year including the United Way of Greater St. Louis and Pedal the Cause.
