NOVUS Product focus for the 22nd edition of ESPN:

Novus posters on Enzymes and Pigments:

  • Use of a novel feed additive preparation in broiler chicken: effects on performance and gut health
    M. Castillo, S. Budnik,S. Peris, Y. Frances

The use of CIBENZA®EP 150 has demonstrated an improvement of the digestibility of protein in poultry diets while maintaining bird production performance. It is a feed additive preparation which combines a heat stable protease (EC with the spores of its production organism Bacillus licheniformis (ATCC 53757). A trial was designed to study the effect of this additive on chicken’s gut health.
  • Quails as a model for egg yolk color prediction in laying hens
    B. Vilà, S. Peris, V. Montoya, D.Ferrùs

Using quails as a model for poultry production was already evaluated by Wilson et al (1961), and by Nelson (1966) specifically for egg yolk color. More recent references of using quails as a model for chickens’ egg
yolk color have not been found. The present work updates the one of Nelson with present bird’s strains and pigments to predict chickens’ egg yolk color from quails’ egg yolk color.
  • An innovative source of natural yellow carotenoids as a substitute to synthetic pigment for broiler skin pigmentation
    M. Castillo, C. Cousin,S. Peris, C. Alleno

The use of Colortek® Yellow, a 10% natural yellow pigment, delivers a consistent and uniform coloration of egg yolks. A new trial was designed to study the efficacy of this natural yellow pigment for broiler skin coloration versus apo-ester.
