What Is MINTREX®?
MINTREX® chelated organic trace minerals from Novus provide a highly bioavailable source of trace minerals to dairy cows in all stages of production. The unique 2:1 chelate structure delivers high bioavailability and superior quality over other inorganic and organic sources of trace minerals. MINTREX works to improve overall animal production through boosting reproductive performance, increasing health status and reducing the number of lame cows and hoof problems compared to other mineral sources.
Improve Reproductive Performance
MINTREX has been shown in multiple conditions to improve reproductive parameters. Figure 1 shows a commercial trial conducted in Spain where cows supplemented with MINTREX had an increase of first service conception rate.
Reduce Lameness
MINTREX has repeatedly been shown to reduce lameness and improve hoof quality on commercial dairy farms throughout the world.

Improve Health Status
Somatic cell count (SCC), antibody titers and milk production during times of stress can all indicate overall health of a dairy cow. MINTREX works to improve enzyme function and support the immune system in dairy cows resulting in improved health status measures.
Boost Milk Fat from Methionine
Due to the unique two-to-one chelation of HMTBa providing methionine value from a 55 percent rumen bypass value in MINTREX, dairy cows realize the value of not only a chelated metal but also the biological value of the associated ligand. Milk fat improvements over time further lead to additional financial gain for the dairy due to milk fat prices (Figure 4).
Due to differences in price between MINTREX and MMKC, cost savings are possible when MINTREX replaces MMKC (Table 2). At the formulated inclusion rate of this trial, MMKC costs $0.081 per cow per day, while MINTREX costs $0.055 per cow per day. This translates to a savings of $0.14 per cow per day or $0.16 cwt when MINTREX replaces MMKC.
