ST. LOUIS (October 18, 2017)—The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a new scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of AVIMATRIX® (Novus International, Inc.) as a zootechnical feed additive. The authority has concluded that the inclusion of AVIMATRIX at 500 mg/kg complete feed has the potential to improve the performance of chickens for fattening, chickens reared for laying and minor avian species for fattening and to point of lay. It is considered to be tolerated by chickens for fattening and reared for laying up to the maximum recommended dose (1,000 mg/kg complete feed).
A new natural carotenoid product may be the only option for some egg and poultry producers facing a tight supply of synthetic pigments. According to Novus International Inc., demand is increasing for its COLORTEK Yellow feed additive -- a natural alternative to apo-ester for use in egg and broiler chicken skin coloring -- as the poultry industry adapts in the face of a shortage of synthetic pigments and decides to replace synthetic ingredients in poultry diets to suit consumer preferences.
Due to the shortage of synthetic pigments, the poultry industry is being forced to adapt and increasingly seek alternative solutions for egg and chicken skin coloring. A unique technology by Novus International is seen to be benefitting from the current market context.
